Description
Yealands tick all our boxes – great wines whilst leading the way in sustainable wine production. The first winery in the world to be certified carbon zero from inception, they use solar power whilst also generating energy through burning old vine prunings. They put coastal winds to good use in wind turbines and also have a purpose-built compost facility producing up to 6,000 tonnes per annum. But possibly their most famous sustainable credential is their Baby Doll sheep which thrive in almost 1,000 hectares of vines. Too short to nibble on the grapes, they do a fantastic job of keeping grass and weeds in check with the added benefit of less tractor use, saving the ground from compaction and reducing machine use.
Tamra Kelly-Washington is head winemaker at Yealands and is responsible for this cracking blend from three aromatic varietals; Pinot Gris, Riesling and Gewurztraminer. Amazing with Asian and fusion cuisine, this is an intriguing blend of richness and flavour, combining poached pears, melon and ginger, with a wonderful mouthfeel, incredible length and overall happy results!
