About This Wine
The Wine
The Catena Alta Chardonnay comes from Mendoza's Adrianna and Domingo vineyards at elevations near 1,450 m and 1,120 m. These high-altitude vineyards produce Chardonnay with notable minerality and purity of fruit. The wine is fermented in French oak barrels with wild yeasts and aged on lees, lending richness without full malolactic fermentation. It expresses ripe pear, apple, and apricot alongside delicate citrus and jasmine notes. Catena Alta is a selection of historic vineyard rows tended by four generations of the Catena family, reflecting both place and tradition.

Terroir
The Adrianna vineyard sits at nearly 5,000 feet elevation in the Uco Valley with calcareous, alluvial soil topped by gravel and limestone deposits. The nearby Domingo vineyard also features gravelly, alluvial loamy soils with limestone at depth. These conditions yield Chardonnays with freshness, minerality, and vibrant fruit character unique to these high-altitude sites.
