Perelada is a distinguished wine producer, located in the picturesque Empordà region of Catalonia in Spain. With a rich history dating back to the 14th century, Perelada is particularly celebrated for its exquisite cava: a sparkling wine that’s fresh, vibrant, and elegantly balanced, embodying the essence of the region.
Perelada’s Cava is produced using the traditional “Méthode Traditionelle”, the same technique used to create Champagne in France. This practice adds a second fermentation while the wine is in the bottle, which adds to the finesse of the sparkling wine and builds the flavours. Each bottle of Perelada Cava is crafted with precision and care.
Perelada cava is made from a blend of indigenous grape varieties, primarily Macabeo, Xarel·lo, and Parellada. These grapes are carefully selected from the estate’s vineyards, where the Mediterranean climate and unique soil composition contribute to the wines’ distinct character.
The wines are aged on their lees (the spent yeast cells) for an extended period, which gives them a creamy texture and infuses them with several layers of flavour. Depending on the style, Perelada’s cavas can be aged for several months to several years, with each duration bringing out different nuances and complexities.
Each summer, Castillo Perelada host a star-studded open-air concert, which is one of the most prestigious music events in Europe – and some of their bottles pay tribute to those stars. The winery also offers guided tours and tastings, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the art of cava making while soaking in the stunning landscape of Empordà, and of course, enjoying a tasting or two of those delectable bubbles.
From the Handpicked Wine Cellars:
Our favourites are the Cava Stars Brut Reserva, which offers a dry, refreshing finish, and the Stars Touch of Rosé, which is a very delicate pink Cava with hints of red berries and floral notes.
