J Lohr Vineyards & Wines was established in 1974 by Jerry Lohr – who was one of the first to discover the potential of a brand new vine-growing region in the Central Coast of California. He planted his first Chardonnay vine in Arroyo Seco.
J Lohr has grown over the decades to become a prominent name in the California wine industry, and Jerry is still at the helm, alongside family members who’ve joined the business. They manage over 4,000 acres of estate vineyards in Monterey County, Paso Robles, and Napa Valley – and these diverse climates and soils are ideal locations for producing the high-quality wines for which they are now renowned.
Their diverse bottle portfolio includes varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc – with wines that appeal to everyday wine drinkers and connoisseurs alike.
Many wine producers have strong sustainability values, but J Lohr stand out from the crowd with their water conservation, energy efficiency, and sustainable farming – and their innovations have earned them certifications and recognition within the industry.
With a philosophy rooted in family values and a dedication to excellence, J Lohr has built and sustained a reputation for producing consistently high-quality, world-class wines that reflect the unique characteristics of California’s diverse wine-growing regions. They are always looking for ways to innovate and expand what they offer, while keeping those strong roots to their founding principles: quality, sustainability, and family heritage.
From the Handpicked Wine Cellars:
J Lohr’s Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon and the Riverstone Chardonnay are among their most acclaimed wines, consistently receiving high ratings from critics. We’re so fond of these wines that we often include them as feature bottles in our Handpicked Wine Box hamper gifts, and as part of our New World Wine sets.
