Founded in 1977 by the Rivetti family, La Spinetta is a renowned Italian wine producer based in the Piedmont region. The winery initially gained fame for its Moscato d’Asti wines, and over the years has expanded its portfolio to include a range of red wines, particularly focusing on Barbaresco and Barolo from the Nebbiolo grape, as well as Barbera and Sangiovese.
La Spinetta is celebrated for its commitment to quality and innovation, while respecting traditional winemaking methods. In the vineyards they follow low yield, high-density planting practices, which help to concentrate the flavours in their wines, and enhance the complexities. They actively avoid using chemical fertilisers and pesticides, opting for biodynamic practices in 75% of their vineyards. Harvesting is done by hand to ensure the best grape selection.
La Spinetta’s winemaking approach is to ferment red wines in rotating stainless steel tanks, and to age in new French oak barriques. This method enhances the structure of the wines without overpowering the fruit, resulting in a style that is ripe, rounded, fruity and full of depth – suitable for both early drinking and aging alike.
In 2011, La Spinetta expanded into Tuscany, producing wines from Sangiovese, Vermentino, and Colorino grapes. They also acquired the Contratto winery which is known for its sparkling wines and vermouths.
