First in the set is the Palazzo della Torre by Allegrini, crafted from Corvina grapes grown in the Valpolicella Classico region. Allegrini has been making wine here for six generations, and their take on the Ripasso method is a masterclass in elegance. A portion of the grapes are dried until late December before being re-fermented with the fresh juice, giving the wine a striking intensity. Expect aromas of vanilla, black pepper, cloves and cinnamon layered with raisin notes, leading into a palate of dark, concentrated fruit, fine tannins and a silky finish.
The second bottle, Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore DOC Ciliegi from ILatium Morini, comes from a family estate now recognised as one of the rising stars of the region. A blend of Corvina, Rondinella and Oseleta, this wine is powerful yet beautifully balanced, offering ripe cherries, dried fruit, herbs and earthy complexity. With its garnet hue, sour cherry brightness and long finish, it’s a wine that demands attention.
