Il Seggio Bolgheri from Poggio al Tesoro shows the Italian side of the Bordeaux blend. Made with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it has red berry and cassis aromas, mineral detail, spice and an elegant, lively finish.
Disobedience by Francis Mallmann from Kaiken is a bold Argentinian blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Merlot. Sourced from vineyards in the Uco Valley and Luján de Cuyo, it combines vibrant red fruit with graphite, sweet spice, fine-grained tannins and a rich, persistent finish.
Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from Pine Ridge brings power and polish from California. Cabernet Sauvignon sits at the heart of the blend, supported by Merlot, Petite Sirah and Malbec. Dark chocolate, black berries, plum spice and spearmint lead into a full-bodied, complex palate with firm, grainy tannins.
The Trinity from Trinity Hill is a refined Hawkes Bay red blend combining Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Malbec. It is packed with cherry, plum, violet and blackberry character, with a serious yet very drinkable feel.
Château des Jacobins Pomerol completes the case with a well-balanced, classically styled Bordeaux. Made from Merlot and Cabernet Franc, it offers generous dark berry fruit, fine tannins, freshness and a smooth, composed finish.

This case was chosen to show just how exciting Bordeaux varieties can be when they are grown in the right place and handled with care. Each wine has that lovely balance of fruit, structure and savoury detail, but none of them feel like copies of each other.
I love the contrast here. The Pomerol brings classical elegance, Napa brings richness and power, Margaret River adds polish and perfume, while Bolgheri, Mendoza and Hawkes Bay each bring their own sense of place. It is a proper grown-up red wine case, but still full of pleasure and drinkability.
For me, this is a brilliant case for anyone who enjoys serious red wine with depth, smooth tannins and food-friendly character. Open these with roast meats, richer dishes or a good cheeseboard and take your time with them.
