2018 Tempranillo Rioja Reserva Magnum from Izadi with balanced, concentrated red fruit and spice.
About This Wine
The Wine
Izadi's Rioja Reserva is crafted from 100% Tempranillo grapes grown within the distinctive triangle of Villabuena, Samaniego, and Ábalos in Rioja Alavesa. The vineyards average 45 years in age, contributing to the wine's concentrated character. The grapes are hand harvested and fermented in stainless steel before aging for 14 months in a blend of American and French oak barrels, most of which are seasoned.
This wine reflects the typicity of its region combining concentration, balance, personality, and a distinct style. With a shiny ruby colour, it offers a complex aromatic profile of red fruits, liquorice, spices and subtle toasted notes. The finish is long and elegant, highlighting floral, fruity, and smoky elements with soft tannins. The Magnum format adds to the wine's ageing potential and presence.
Izadi is a winery that values respect for the environment and sustainability in their vineyards located in Rioja. Their Reserva expresses the character of their estate and traditional Rioja winemaking adapted to modern tastes and quality standards.

The Producer
Bodegas Izadi was founded in 1987 by Gonzalo Antón, who, together with a group of friends and businessmen from Vitoria, created an innovative project in the heart of Rioja Alavesa.
Villabuena de Álava, where part of the family was already involved in the world of viticulture, was the chosen town for the construction of an innovative winery focused on producing quality wines. Gonzalo Antón's extensive knowledge of the hospitality and restaurant industry led him to create Izadi, a wine that quickly became one of the most highly regarded in the culinary world. Furthermore, the incorporation of new winemaking techniques and his strong desire for continuous improvement have resulted in a distinctive style that has been refined over time.
In 2000, the incorporation of his son, Lalo Antón, into the company boosted sales abroad, as well as the expansion of the company, which, under the name of Artevino, tackled the projects of Finca Villacreces (DO Ribera del Duero), Bodegas Vetus (DO Toro) and Orben (DOCa. Rioja).
The commitment to quality, the connection to gastronomy and the attachment to the land are the fundamental pillars on which Bodegas Izadi is based.
Terroir
The grapes come from a 178-hectare estate in Rioja Alavesa, with 70 hectares owned by Izadi. The vineyards are planted in the triangle formed by the villages of Villabuena, Samaniego, and Ábalos. Vines average 45 years old, grown on soils typical of Rioja Alavesa, contributing to the wine’s balance and structure.
