About This Wine
The Wine
Château Fontarèche in Languedoc has a long history dating back to 1642 and is currently owned by Jacques De Lamy. The estate farms 120 hectares of vines sustainably with vineyards on ancient limestone terraces, which provide well-drained conditions requiring careful irrigation, especially during hot Mediterranean summers. The 2025 vintage faced challenges from heatwaves and wildfires but resulted in quality grapes through attentive vineyard and winery management.
This Viognier is gently handled with destemming and slow fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures to preserve its delicate aromatics. It is unoaked and briefly aged on lees for additional palate texture. The wine delivers a pale yellow colour with expressive aromas of lychee, white flowers, and stone fruits. It has a silky, full mouthfeel balanced by fresh acidity, ending with an airy and refreshing finish.
The wine is intended for convivial occasions, pairing well with a range of dishes including seafood, white meats, salads, and lighter spicy foods. It reflects both the traditional and modern approach of the estate and winemaker Vincent Dubernet, continuing a family legacy.

Château Fontarèche
Built in the 14th century, a few steps from the Canal du Midi, the Château de Fontarèche was initially the property of the archbishops of Narbonne before being acquired by Pierre Mignard, portraitist of Louis XIV, in 1682.
The vineyard and woods of Fontarèche form a perfect square around the Château and the wine cellar, legacies of a heritage proudly preserved over the centuries.

Terroir
The vineyards lie on ancient limestone terraces with soils composed of gravel and limestone, covered by large pebbles. These soils absorb water easily but retain little, making water management essential in the Mediterranean climate. The estate uses irrigation channels and a water storage system to ensure vines reach full ripeness despite hot and dry conditions.
