Nestled in the heart of Roussillon in France, between the Pyrenees Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea, Domaine Cazes winery has been crafting some incredible wines since 1895. It’s a family-run business, now in the hands of the fourth generation, and extending over 220 hectares – covering all of Roussillon’s different terroirs, and producing outstanding wines every year.
Domaine Cazes is also one of the largest biodynamic estates in France, which means they are all about farming in harmony with nature. The vineyards are considered as a living organism, and biodynamic practices aim to strengthen the unity, balance and resistance of this organism, the plants that grow in it, and the entire ecosystem. And it’s not just ethically sound – this approach makes for more resilient vines, rich soil, and some great-tasting wines too.
Visting Domaine Cazes is an experience in itself. The estate is beautiful, with picturesque vineyards and a welcoming atmosphere. They offer tours and tastings that let you dive deep into their winemaking process and learn firsthand about what biodynamic farming in the wine industry entails. Their on-site restaurant serves up delicious local cuisine – perfectly paired with their wines, of course.
Domaine Cazes is where tradition meets innovation, with a serious commitment to the environment. We highly recommend giving Domaine Cazes a try – it’s like getting a little taste of France in every sip.
From the Handpicked Wine Box Cellars:
We recommend Rivesaltes Ambre: it’s made using the “mutage” technique and aging in an oxidative environment in age-old foudres (very large vats). This leads to a naturally sweet wine that has an incredible aromatic complexity – an absolute favourite in our house with incredible depth. Unbelievable value for money.
