Joseph Drouhin

Maison Joseph Drouhin is one of Burgundy’s most iconic family-run wineries, with a history that dates back to 1880. Based in Beaune, they produce arguably some of the best wines from Burgundy, with a wide range of both red and white wines. Burgundy itself is famed for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes, and both feature significantly at Drouhin.

Drouhin has a deep connection to the land. They own vineyards in some of Burgundy’s top appellations, including Chablis, Côte de Nuits, and Côte de Beaune. The family has always been big on organic and biodynamic farming, and no chemicals or pesticides are used in their vineyards at all.

Drouhin’s wines are known for their elegance, balance, and finesse. The reds, made from Pinot Noir, often have a silky texture with flavours of red berries, earth, and subtle spices, while the Chardonnays are crisp and minerally, with notes of citrus, green apple, and sometimes a touch of oak. No matter what you pick, you’re getting a wine that reflects the true character of Burgundy.

They’ve also gone international, and expanded into Oregon in the USA, where they make excellent Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the Dundee Hills region of the Willamette Valley, under the label Domaine Drouhin Oregon – all with the same level of craftsmanship and attention to detail.

If you’re after a wine that is both refined and respectful of the land, Drouhin is a great place to start for a taste of Burgundy’s finest.

From the Handpicked Wine Box Cellars:

Drouhin’s Meursault Blanc Chardonnay is something very special: aromatic, creamy and gingery; and the Nuits-Saint-Georges is a fine example of their Pinot Noir, fruity on the nose and perfect on the palate.
