A Catalan immigrant, Miguel Viu García and his two sons, Agustín and Miguel Viu Manent, began their winemaking journey Chile in 1935. Their first enterprise was the Bodegas Viu, where they bottled and sold their “Vinos Viu” wine on the local market.
In 1966, Miguel Senior’s dream of creating his own wine from vine to bottle came true: he acquired the Hacienda San Carlos de Cunaco estate in Colchagua – the chief supplier of the wine he bottled and sold as Vinos Viu. As the vines thrived and the years passed, Viu Manent grew into a renowned name in the Chilean wine industry.
Today, in their third generation of family ownership, their expansive vineyards are still nestled in the idyllic landscapes of the Colchagua Valley. The Mediterranean-like climate and diverse soils here provide the perfect conditions for growing a variety of grapes, particularly Malbec, Carmenere, and Syrah. They’re fully committed to sustainable and environmentally-friendly viticulture, from organic farming to water conservation.
At the heart of Viu Manent is a deep love of family, viticulture and having faith in your dreams – and a firm belief in the magic of the Colchagua valley. All of that combined makes for some outstanding wines.
