Description
The beautiful wine comes from Domaine Alain Chavy, one of the well-established family domaines in Puligny-Montrachet.
Brothers Alain and Jean-Louis took over the estate from their father Gérard Chavy in 1997, then in 2003 the family vineyard holdings were split between the two brothers. Today, Alain manages about 10 hectares of vines, many in Puligny-Montrachet, including some Premier Cru plots and also some sites near to the Grand Cru Chevalier-Montrachet.
Puligny-Montrachet, in the Côte de Beaune, is widely considered one of the great appellations of white Burgundy, known for its chardonnay wines that balance minerality, finesse and richness.
The soils here are typical of the area: predominantly limestone / chalk with clay, giving good drainage, subtle minerality, and freshness. These soils help the wine show elegance and layered complexity.
“Les 8 Climats” refers to the wine being sourced from eight separate ‘climats’ (parcels / vineyards) around Puligny-Montrachet. This means that different micro-terroirs contribute to the complexity of the wine; adding depth, nuance and a broad expression of what Puligny can offer.
This wine is a big step up from a village wine, with more intensity, and bucket load more complexity – Burgundy flavour without the full price tag of top-class Premier Cru or Grand Cru.
This is a beautifully crafted Burgundy demonstrating the elegance and precision that Puligny is known and loved for. The nose opens with citrus, white flowers and a touch of stone fruit, layered with subtle notes of hazelnut and fresh brioche. On the palate it is refined and balanced, with crisp acidity, a fine mineral backbone and a gentle creaminess from well-judged oak. The finish is long, pure and beautifully textured.
This wine is drinking well now but has the structure to develop further with a few years in bottle.
Perfect with roast chicken, seared scallops or simply enjoyed as a glass of something special.
