Description
With ‘Fous’ being the French word for ‘crazy men’ this aptly named wine is an exciting project between four Chilean friends, referencing what their peers described as their ‘craziness’ in crossing the traditional vineyard boundaries of Chile to source grapes from vineyards in the extreme conditions further south and east.
Credited with discovering many of the top vineyard sites across Chile, their winery is based in Maule, to the south of the main vineyard area, where the ‘Fous’ make an enviable range of top-quality varietal wines.
Fog blankets in the Limari vineyards each morning help the grapes retain freshness and work in the winery is minimal, using wild yeasts for fermentation then leaving the wine for 12 months on its lees.
The nose has aromas of white peach, pear and white flowers which continue onto the fresh palate. Complex and balanced, the wine is framed by bright acidity with a persistent, mineral finish and a subtle butteriness.
