A barrique is a type of oak barrel used traditionally in wine aging. Originating from Bordeaux, France, these barrels have a capacity of approximately 225 litres. The use of oak in winemaking influences the wine’s flavour, adding notes of vanilla, toast, and spices, and can also affect the wine’s texture and tannin structure. The choice of using new or old barriques, as well as the origin of the oak, can significantly alter the final taste of the wine.
