French Tannat is a red wine grape variety originally from the South West region of France, specifically Madiran, where it produces powerful, tannic wines with high ageing potential. The wines made from Tannat are full-bodied, deeply coloured, and rich in dark fruit flavours like blackberry and plum, often with notes of smoke or earth. Due to the high tannin content, Tannat wines are often aged in oak to soften their structure and add complexity.
