McHenry Hohnen

A fantastic wine producer from the beautiful Margaret River region in Western Australia, McHenry Hohnen was founded by two passionate wine lovers: David Hohnen, and his brother-in-law Murray McHenry.

Biodynamic and organic farming are at the heart of their winemaking philosophy. They believe that the best wines come from healthy vines, and healthy vines come from healthy soil – and so their focus is entirely on natural farming techniques that boost soil health and encourage biodiversity. They use natural compost and manure teas manufactured on site, and observe lunar cycles as part of their biodynamic regime. As a result, they can legitimately claim that each bottle truly reflects the unique characteristics of their vineyard’s terroir – and their flavours are pure, balanced, and complex.

In the winery they use wild yeasts, give minimal time to fining and filtration, and the wines are aged in French oak barrels. This lets the natural flavours of the grapes shine through, resulting in even more character and depth.

McHenry Hohnen wines are held in high regard by critics around the world, and they really do stand out as producers of premium, sustainably crafted wines that embody the essence of the Margaret River terroir. Their deep respect for nature and passion for quality are evident in every bottle.

From the Handpicked Wine Box Cellars:

The Calgardup Brook Sauvignon Blanc gives delicious tropical fruit flavours that are also slightly nutty. On the red side, we love the Hazel’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, and the Rocky Road Shiraz and the Rolling Stone Petit Verdot, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon blend.
