Description
Ed Carr is the brains of Arras, and was one of the first winemakers to see the potential Tasmania had for producing world class sparkling wine in the early 1990’s.Made from the 3 ‘Champagne varieties’, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier. The grapes are grown along the renowned cool climate Tasmanian Coast and exposed to long summer daylight and maritime influences. This ensures ideal conditions for long, slow and consistent fruit development, essential for the production of quality sparkling wine. Benefitting from a minimum of three years development in bottle on its on lees before disgorgement (the same duration legally required for Vintage Champagne), followed by at least 6 months in bottle before release. This inviting wine has a complex nutty and savoury aroma with forest floor and hints of lychee and peach. The palate is structured with a wonderful balance of freshness and flavours of nougat, spice, vanilla and forest floor. In the words of Australia’s most famous wine critic, James Halliday “While there have been many distinguished sparkling wines made in Tasmania, none has so consistently scaled the heights of Arras. The complexity, texture and structure of the wines are akin to that of Bollinger RD and Krug.”
