Description
Château du Rouët has been owned by the Savatier family since 1840 and is currently run by the family’s fifth generation. The estate was originally known for selling pinewood and cork from its surrounding forest, with the first vines planted in 1927 to protect the forest from bushfires. In 1945, Château du Rouët produced their first bottled wine to generate income after the lean wartime years. Since then, wine has become a key focus for the estate, now run by brothers Martin and Matthieu Savatier. Martin is responsible for managing the vineyards, whereas Matthieu makes the wines.
The property is situated in the Estérel mountain range’s foothills, which spans Provence’s coast. Their 85 hectares of vines are planted on distinctive red, volcanic rock soil at an elevation of 560 metres. The south-facing vineyards benefit from warm, sunny days, moderated by the cooling Mistral and sea breezes which add elegance and freshness to the wines. Château du Rouët practises ‘la lutte raisonnée’ (sustainable viticulture) and works their soil using organic fertilisers.
The ‘Villa Estérelle’ rosé, made solely from estate-grown fruit, is a blend of Grenache, Tibouren and Cinsault harvested at night to retain their delicate aromas. At the winery, cold maceration at 8 – 12°C is carried out for six hours to enhance the aromas of the wine without affecting colour intensity. The result is a delicate, pale pink wine defined by strawberry, raspberry, wild thyme and rosemary aromas.
Beautiful pale pink in colour, this rosé wine from the Côtes de Provence appellation is brimming with aromas of ripe citrus fruit and red berries, with subtle floral nuances. The palate is refreshing, with a mouthwatering acidity carrying the bright citrus and berry flavours onto the poised and elegant finish.
