Description
The Heilan Coo Shiraz hails from Victoria, Australia, and is inspired by the Scots who left the Highlands in search of a new life ‘down under’. Many took their culture, language and stories with them, blending old traditions with a new world way of living.
‘Heilan Coo’ is Scots for Highland cow, a symbol of strength, warmth and character. It reflects both the people who made that journey and the style of the wine itself – generous, warming and full of personality.
The producers focus on making wines that are honest, fruit-led and easy to enjoy. There’s no fuss here, just good grapes, careful winemaking and a clear aim to make wine that people actually want to drink.
The Heilan Coo Shiraz is rich, warming and full of character. Expect generous dark fruit like blackberry and plum, a touch of black pepper and gentle spice, and a smooth, rounded finish. It’s bold enough for hearty food but soft enough to enjoy on its own, its all about comfort and flavour.
With the addition in the blend of 15% Mataro (or Mourvèdre as it is better known), the Mataro adds depth and backbone to the blend. It brings dark, savoury fruit, gentle earthiness and a touch of spice, as well as firm but smooth tannins that give the wine more structure and help it age and hold its shape alongside the Shiraz.
This is a comforting red that suits cosy nights in, big meals with friends and classic winter dishes. It’s great with roast meats, stews, pies and cheese, but just as good with no food at all. If you like smooth, full-bodied reds with plenty of fruit and a bit of spice, this is a bottle you’ll come back to.
