Description
Classicaly austere nose of white stone fruit, chalk and minerals. The palate is crisp, dry and medium bodied, with steely acidity and a well defined, elegant palate. The citrus, green apple and pear fruit flavours last well into the deliciously refreshing, lengthy finish.
Producer
Louis Michel & Fils is one of Chablis’ benchmark estates, known for producing pure, precise wines that are fermented and aged entirely in stainless steel to let the fruit and terroir speak clearly.
The Michel family have been making wine in Chablis since the 19th century, and today Guillaume Gicqueau-Michel continues the tradition with a focus on sustainable viticulture and minimal intervention in the cellar. Their approach delivers wines with remarkable tension, minerality, and ageing potential.
Tasting Note
The Montée de Tonnerre is often considered the most prestigious of the Chablis Premier Cru vineyards, sitting just next to the Grand Cru slope.
This wine shows all the hallmarks of the site: a lifted nose of citrus, green apple, white flowers, and crushed oyster shell.
On the palate it is taut and finely etched, with racy acidity and a core of lemon, lime zest and ripe orchard fruit. The Kimmeridgian limestone soils impart a distinctive saline edge and long, mineral-driven finish.
Youthful and precise now, but it will reward careful cellaring over the next decade.
Food Pairing
A superb match for classic seafood dishes such as oysters, scallops, or grilled lobster. It also pairs beautifully with sushi, Dover sole, or a simple roast chicken. For cheese lovers, try it with young goat’s cheese or a creamy Brie for a luxurious pairing.
