Description
Domaine Gaunoux are a small family producer based in Meursault, with 6ha of vineyards, in Meursault, Pommard and Volnay. The plantings of their vines are split 50% between Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
Jean-Michel Gaunoux’s family have a long winemaking history in Burgundy, and in 1990, Jean-Michel Gaunoux set up on his own. More recently, his son has taken over the winemaking for the estate.
Their vineyards are farmed organically, although are not certified.
Jean-Michel’s style is elegant style, not too flashy with moderate toast oak. Aged for 12-14 months in French oak, of which only 25% us now.
The wines are made to develop well in the bottle and unlike other producers, Gaunoux hold vintages back and release them once they have begun to evolve with some development and tertiary characters.
Earthy yet elegant red Burgundy, juicy with strawberry and cherry above a layer of mushrooms and forest floor.
