Description
Domaine de la Janasse is firmly established as one of the southern Rhone’s finest wine estates. We love their wines and drink them as often as possible!
In 1967 Isabelle Sabon’s father came back from his military service, deciding to take over his father’s vines, ending the relationship with their local cooperative who they previously sold their grapes to. He was ambitious. He knew he had fabulous soil and wanted to expand the estate by acquiring new plots. From 15 hectares at the very beginning, La Janasse has now reached more than 90 hectares. A real family business, Isabelle graduated with a degree in oenology from the University of Toulouse in 2001, joining father and brother at the estate and taking on all winemaking responsibilities.
The vines for cuvée Terre de Bussière come from a particular gravelly alluvial soil near Ouvèze that brings a fantastic minerality and complexity to the wine. This is a wine with depth, structure and sophistication. An inviting yet deep nose with black fruits, leather and minerality. The palate is layered with underlying cedar and leather notes from ageing in both barrel and vat over a period of 12 months. Cracking!
