Description
Cigales, a small DO or ‘quality region’ located in Castilla y León, east of Valladolid, 2.5hrs north of Madrid. Small & new growing area of less than 3,000 hectares, denominated as a wine region as recently as 1991. Much smaller & very much less famous region than Ribera del Duero to the east, so land & wines tend to be considerably less expensive & much better value.
As the name suggests, this winery is also a museum, with sculptures & paintings dating back to the 17th century.
Expressive fruit-driven aromas with supporting layers of vanilla & mocha, deep in colour. Rich & complex with flavours of blackcurrant, liquorice. The mouthfeel is velvety and elegant, with sweet tannins & sustained length.
