Spanish Cariñena

Spanish Parellada | Spanish Malvasia | Spanish Verdejo | Spanish Garnacha | Spanish Macabeo & Spanish Viura

Spanish Cariñena, also known as Carignan in France, is a red wine grape variety primarily grown in the northeastern Spanish region of Aragón, from which it originally hails and after which it’s named. It’s especially common in the appellations of Cariñena and Priorat, where it thrives in the warm, arid conditions. Cariñena is a late-ripening grape known for its high acidity and tannin content, often contributing structure to blends, particularly with Garnacha. On its own, it produces full-bodied, robust wines with dark fruit flavours, often showing hints of pepper, spice, or earthy notes. If you have a preference for full-bodied, structured red wines, you may want to give Spanish Cariñena a try.
