Description
Synonymous with Priorat, Scala Dei are the wine estate of the Priorat. Founded in the 12th Century by Cartesian monks who were trying to settle around Montsant (the Holy Mountain), local shepherds told them they could see the Angels climbing God’s stairs to meet him at night (Scala Dei meaning Ladder of God). The monks settled, started making wine and the rest is history. Today, Scala Dei Cartoixa has its own denominación de origen or geographical indication system so every bottle of wine produced in the DOC Priorat has the logo of Scala Dei on the bottle regardless of the producer.
With intense and lingering aromas of red and black fruits underpinned by violet notes. The palate is supple and elegant with spice and toasty notes. A silky mouthfeel with ripe tannins and plenty of minerality running through. A serious wine with great length.
