Description
Brother and sister duo Guillaume and Sarah Glantenay are the sixth generation of their family to run Domaine Georges Glantenay, taking over from their father Pierre in 2013. Pierre still works the domaine’s eight hectares of vines, four in Volnay, while Guillaume runs the new cuverie and Sarah manages sales and marketing. Guillaume has brought a greater elegance and purity of fruit to the domaine’s wines, using 15 – 20% whole-bunches to create lifted perfume and utilising low toast oak to support, rather than mask, these aromas.
Guillaume’s grandfather married a woman from Chambolle, so the domaine has long had vineyards in the village. These were previously rented out before being taken back in 2013 and now produce the domaine’s excellent Chambolle-Musigny. It has lifted notes of red fruit and rose petals, expressive fruit intensity on the mid-palate, supple tannins and excellent length.
Deep ruby red in colour, this is a delicate wine known for its aromatic intensity. Notes of violet and plum in youth develop with age to offer more complex aromas of earth and leather. Silky tannins are balanced by a lively acidity on the palate. Hints of cooked and candied fruit come through on the long, sophisticated finish.
