Description
Like all good things, Fontanafredda is the product of a love story, between the first King of Italy, Vittorio Emanuele II, and Rosa Vercellana.
The Fontanafredda estate was purchased in 1858 by Vittorio Emanuele as a gift for “La Bella Rosina”, the woman he loved, and subsequently registered in the names of their children, Maria Vittoria and Emanuele Alberto Count of Mirafiore and Fontanafredda. Over the next 160 years the estate would be recognised as one of the top wine producers in the world.
In recent times Fontanafredda have embarked upon a “Green Renaissance”, becoming Organic certified in 2018 and undertaking a slew of projects focussed on improving sustainability.
From a young age this wine presents a wonderful bouquet full of surprises: the silky tannins allow this wine to express all the typical qualities of Nebbiolo. Thanks to its terroir, an exceptional fruity profile with a hint of spice is immediately detectable. Later in its life, the colour becomes garnet red, with delicate brick-red hues, and its bouquet deepens, with traces of dry flowers, such as roses and, above all, geraniums. In the mouth, it is deep and soft, as well as spicy and well-balanced, with a vibrant tannin and great persistence on the finish. Throughout its life, the common denominator is and always will be its great pleasantness and the great balance given by the territorial context in which it was born.
