Description
The Brancaia estate as we know it, celebrates its 40th birthday this year.
Swiss couple Brigitte and Bruno Widmer purchased Brancaia in Castellina in Chianti in 1981 and their wines have been critically praised from the start. Having studied oenology, their daughter Barbara Widmer heads up the winemaking team whilst the third generation has already started to get involved in the family business.
Their Chianti Classico is a tribute to their terroir – organically farmed Sangiovese sourced from sustainable, south facing vineyards at altitudes of 230 and 400 metres above sea level. The nose is seductive and enticing with hints of ripe cherries and plum. The elegant palate displays ripe red fruits and exhibits a lovely acidity. Medium bodied with a bright finish and great length.
